This summer I will bike from Central Jersey through Upstate NY to support kids suffering from pediatric illness. This is no ordinary cycling event; it’s an exhilarating ride ending at Camp Simcha, a remarkable overnight camp that provides seriously ill children with a vacation from sickness, restoring their spirits and renewing their determination to fight.

The last time I did this ride, it was to thank Hashem for my health and my ability to choose that life. This year, I am proud to ride in honor of a Camp Simcha camper, my friends' son, Menachem Falik. Menachem is a bright young boy who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 3. This debilitating and degenerative disease deprives Menachem of doing even the simplest daily activities like getting up, getting dressed, walking, running, and active sports activities with his friends. Last summer, Menachem attended Camp Simcha Special for the very first time and was able to experience 10 days of that special brand of sheer joy, the likes of which only Camp Simcha can produce.

The ride won't be easy; neither is life for a child with cancer or other serious illness. Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special, are Chai Lifeline’s flagship programs.
